In an attempt to practice our concrete construction method, the team looked for a way they could make a boat-like shape while using a foam mold, to model the upcoming construction of the full canoe. To do this, the team purchased a small foam cooler from 7/11, cut it to shape, and used it as a female mold. Two 1/2" lifts of concrete were applied, with the tensile mesh reinforcement along the middle.
After letting the model boat cure for a day, the team was pleased to observe that the boat resurfaces when placed at the bottom of a body of water. In addition, the boat can bear up to 35lbs of force before sinking.
