Regional Competition

On Sunday April 10, the team departed TCNJ for Rowan University, with the concrete canoe in a 26' U-haul to compete in the regional competition.

After arriving at 8am, the day began with the swamp test. Out of 4 teams present, the TCNJ Thunder was one of two canoes to pass this test and be deemed safe enough to race.

Upon racing, it became clear that the canoe was not able to withstand the loads of two paddlers as well as infiltrated water, and the canoe began to disintegrate during the first race, disqualifying the team from other races.

When the races were completed, the team set up their display to be inspected by the judges. This included a poster, material samples, and a sample cross-section of the canoe.

The day ended with the overall competition results. The team is very proud to bring home a second place trophy on behalf of TCNJ's Civil Engineering program. Hopefully future teams can build on the success of 2022 and perform even better in the future.
